The women’s lacrosse team will be competing on its home turf today, Wednesday, at 3 p.m. against Wagner. Columbia (5-7, 0-6 Ivy) is heading into the game after its most recent loss to Yale on Saturday. The Seahawks are currently 3-12 for the season and 2-7 in the Northeast Conference, having lost to Monmouth 12-11 on April 16. Holding a 12-0 all-time record against Wagner, the Lions are hoping to maintain their perfect record by defeating the Seahawks once again this afternoon.
In their triumph over Wagner last season, the Lions topped the Seahawks 12-7 in their third game of the season, bringing their record to 3-0. The first half of the game was tight, with each team putting in goals and trading the lead. Columbia attacker and then-senior Holly Glynn struck first, less than 52 seconds into the game, and goals by junior Gabrielle Geronimos and then-seniors Lauren Olsen and Rachael Ryan gave the Lions a 4-3 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Light Blue roared ahead, outscoring the Seahawks by an 8-4 margin. Current senior Brittany Shannon scored a hat trick in the half, while Geronimos added two more and Ryan and Olsen tallied a point each. The Lions outshot the Seahawks 27-19, and won 12 out of 20 draw controls in the game.
This season, the Lions will be playing Wagner in one of their final two games of the season, and will be striving to end with a final record of .500 by defeating both the Seahawks today and Harvard on Saturday.
The game against Wagner will begin at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Robert K. Kraft Field.
